Pojava OPsI sindroma je retka ali ako se javi može imati fatalni ishod. 13 U diferencijalnoj ndijagnozi treba misliti i na hemangioendoteliom, litoral cel angiom i hamartoma slezine. Mnoge studije ukazuju na pojavu sepse u splenektomisane dece a glavni uzročnici su Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, i neke gram-negativne bakterije. Parcijalna splenektomija i selektivna embolozacija slezine su metod izbora kod operativnog tretmana angioma slezine.
