Massive Sinonasal Polyposis in an Elderly Patient: Report of a Case

We present the case of a 70-year-old female patient who sought consultation with an otolaryngologist due to a mass protruding from the left nasal cavity. The patient reported that she had noticed the mass for the past two months, although she had experienced nasal breathing difficulties for over ten years. Upon examination, a large pink mass was observed protruding from the left nostril. Anterior rhinoscopy revealed complete obstruction of both the left and right nasal cavities by the tumor mass. Computed tomography showed that the mass entirely filled both nasal cavities and all paranasal sinuses. Surgical treatment was performed, involving endoscopic sinus surgery, which resulted in the complete removal of the mass. Histopathological analysis confirmed that the mass was a case of massive sinonasal polyposis. At the six-month follow-up, no signs of recurrence were observed. Although sinonasal polyposis is a relatively common condition in rhinologic surgery, such pronounced polyposis with prolapse of polyps through the nostril is a rare presentation that can initially mimic benign or malignant tumors of the nasal cavities.

Masivna benigna lingvalna tonzilarna hiperplazija i traheostomija

Raspravljamo o poteškoćama u intubaciji u proceni disajnih puteva.

Large lipoma of the larynx and its removal using a laryngofissure approach: Case report

Laryngeal lipomas are a rare form of a benign mesenchymal tumour containing fatty tissue. They can occur at any subcutaneous location part of the body, particularly in the trunk and lower and upper limbs where fat tissue is more abundant. We present the case of a 66-year-old man complaining of long lasting (3 years) discomphort in his throat, with no breathing or glutition problems. CT scans showed a 3.0-cm fat-containing mass involving the left aryepiglottic fold. The patient was taken to the operating room for excision of the mass using a laryngofissure approach. The final pathologic diagnosis was lipoma. We describe a case of large laryngeal lipoma removed through an external surgical approach in order to prevent any possible recurrence or malignant alteration.

OrIGINaLNI radOVI OrIGINaL arTICLEs submucosal diatermia conch / turbinektomia with partial resection of the septum, yes or no?

There are many authors advocating this surgical procedure in cases where septoplasty alone isn`t efficient enough. We made short prospective study in which we approved joined surgical procedures for improving nasal function. Study was done with 2 groups of patients. In first group of patients (A) septoplasty alone was done, in second (group B) we done partial turbinectomy too. Preoperative there were significant difference in rhinomanometic readings between these two groups, but postoperatively there were not, which lead us to the conclusion that use of this method is justified in cases where turbinate enlargement is significant. In both groups there were significant (p<0, 01) improving in postoperative rhinomanometric results.

Neoplastic, hiperplastic or ectopic meningothelial islands? -Case report and short review of the literature

The case of concomitant occurrence of schwannoma of the ethmoid sinus and meningothelial hyperplasia in female patient without neurofibromatosis-2 is presented. The components of Schwannoma tissue and meningothelial hyperplasia cells islets were confirmed by histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations. Transitional zones of these two different tissues macroscopically as well as microscopically were not observed. Histological and immunohistochemical findings and possible pathogenesis of this uncommon tumor combination is discussed.
